A few people have mentioned the joint Zvezda/Richard Borg collaboration on the board game with miniatures (1/72nd scale), I have this set and have enjoyed playing the battles as well as painting the minis. The set has been expanded by the makers and is still available, but I only have the original box set. I have added a few photos of some of the units and their unique bases. These bases are for use with Zvezda's own rule set which is included in the box with Borg's C&C type rule system. Both systems are quick and fun to play and of course comes with a scenario book. Along with Battle Cry, which also uses the C&C system, I often enjoy a quick game.
Samurai horsemen with lances. The over sized banner on the base gives information about the unit in Zvezda's rules.
Foot warriors.
Archers, the large arrows on the base are for showing the amount of ammo left. Each time the unit fires, one large arrow is removed from the stand.
I painted up two factions, one in purple and one in red. Not the best of light for the photo's.
The unique bases that are supplied.
The figures are very well sculpted, as you would expect from Zvezda.
I just ordered this box set! You did a great job with these, I can hardly wait to get them and play around a bit!
ReplyDeleteHappy to help, you will enjoy the game.
ReplyDeleteSpectacular figures, well done sir...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, I enjoyed painting them and of course the game is fun to play.
DeleteWhat a great game. Although the subject matter requires a certain taste for the period, it is an excellent intro to wargaming with miniatures in general. I know Gary has been inspired. Games like this really scratch that itch you might have for a particular era without investing too much time and money. Always worth looking at. I myself like the Wings of Glory rules/game for this purpose.

Thanks again buddy, you are correct, no problem at all using the figures for Lion Rampant and even Saga if a battle board could be knocked up!
Delete... Also... the way the models are mounted, it looks like they could be used "as is" for Lion Rampant?!

ReplyDeleteCheck out the forums, there are a few battle-boards for Samurai there
Thanks Larry, I will go and have a look.
DeleteVery very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rodger, painted them up two or three years ago I think. The game has moved on since then with other units now available.
